It was a year filled with new product launches, record-breaking achievements, and, of course, numerous challenges. In this article, I will unwrap the performance of my Amazon FBA business throughout 2022, sharing insights, lessons learned, and strategies that contributed to my success. So, let's dive in and explore the exciting journey of my business in the past year.

Expanding Product Range on Amazon

One of the key highlights of 2022 was the expansion of my product range on Amazon. I successfully launched 11 new products under one of my existing brands, with six of them being exclusive designs created in collaboration with my supplier. As someone who was never particularly skilled in art and design, I was fortunate to have a supplier who took care of the majority of the design work. My role involved suggesting amendments and approving the final versions for production.

Differentiating Your Products

Differentiating your products on Amazon can be a game-changer in a competitive marketplace. By making amendments to the design or look of a product, you can set yourself apart from others and attract more customers. Fortunately, this can often be done relatively cheaply or even for free. Some suppliers may even offer exclusivity for your design. Negotiating with your supplier on price and terms can lead to mutually beneficial agreements.

Negotiating with suppliers is an essential skill for any Amazon FBA seller. While some suppliers may charge for design amendments or exclusivity, it's crucial to explore negotiation opportunities. For instance, you can negotiate a refund of the design fee once you've ordered a certain quantity of units over time. Other negotiation points could include a shorter exclusivity period or breaking the fee into monthly installments. Remember, having your own exclusive design can pay dividends in the long run, making you stand out among competitors and attracting more customers.

Performance of Amazon FBA Business in 2022

Now, let's delve into the performance of my Amazon FBA business throughout 2022. I sold a total of 91,593 units to customers worldwide, which was three times the number of units sold in 2021. On average, I sold 251 units per day, with a record-breaking day of 509 units. Remarkably, despite this substantial growth, I managed to reduce the number of hours I dedicated to my business. Outsourcing advertising to a freelancer and utilizing tools like Helium 10 and Shopkeeper allowed me to focus on other aspects of business growth.

To make Amazon FBA as passive as possible, I highly recommend outsourcing advertising management once you reach a certain advertising spend threshold. In my case, when my monthly advertising spend exceeded $5,000, I decided to work with a freelancer to handle advertising. While this incurs additional costs, it frees up valuable time to focus on other critical areas of business growth. Tools like Helium 10 and Shopkeeper also played a significant role in streamlining forecasting, reordering, and overall business management.

Revenues and Growth

Throughout 2022, my Amazon FBA revenues continued to soar as I launched more products. The peak month was July, where I achieved sales worth over £170,000. Witnessing strangers across the globe search for and purchase my branded products was an incredible feeling. This achievement was particularly significant as it surpassed my goal of reaching £100,000 in monthly revenues. By the end of 2022, my Amazon FBA business officially joined the seven-figure club, generating a total of £1.2 million in net revenues.
